  • Mo' Money (07 Jul 08)

stock_marketThe introduction of The New Economy has led to some heated discussions, as the average money available in most games was radically cut down. This was intended, but a bug in the system led to an additional and ongoing decrease of money over the course of games.

Yesterday we uploaded a patch that will fix this problem and boost the money income in taxes in general.

Further efforts have gone into improving the pricing policy of AI players on the stock market. The last traded price (displayed as 'current price') will no longer influence the prices payed and demanded by computer players. Prices will now be the result of each player's personal trade history, where the unavailability of resources will lead to a raise, and vice versa.

Update: Despite some trouble updating, the new version is now up and running smoothly as expected. Tell us what you think in the forum.

As already presented over the last week, we will publish a major game update soon. Apart from the new spy, monetary and point system, there will be many smaller changes and updates.

In-Game Help: A box to the left, just below the main menu, will show context sensitive help texts, when the mouse moves over different areas in the game. This first release will mainly cover the spy and trade systems. Future updates will introduce assisting information also for the army system, for province upgrades and factory productions. This feature is mostly aiming at getting new players started, but will hopefully also be useful for more experienced players.

  • Let's get to the Points (15 Jun 08)

goal The upcoming update will introducing a new scoring system for determining the winner of a round of Supremacy1914. The daily index of power will be calculated from the size, morale and industrial strength of a nation. Unlike now, the points will not be given absolute, but relative to the rest of Europe.  The winner will be the first player to reach 1000, thus 50% of all points.

This system will make sure that only one player can reach the winning condition at the time. The problem with the current system was, that up to three powers could be head-to-head with almost 1000 points each. Such games will now last longer, while boring rounds with one very dominant player end faster.

These changes will take effect also for running games. Usually, the resulting changes will be quite small  with all players loosing some points compared to before. The order of ranking will stay the same in all cases.

  • The New Economy (15 Jun 08)

pound_note One important part of the update will be a new monetary system. Especially in games that were running for more than four weeks, money was becoming increasingly worthless. This new system will finally stop inflation. The main idea is that there is a fixed total amount of money present in the game. As a result, the total amount of paid taxes depends on how much has been spent globally the previous days.

Important: When converting old games to the new system, the amount of money of all AI controlled countries will be limited to 100.000£. If the country has 234.442£ now, it will have 100.000£ after the conversion. If the country had 39.000£ in the old system, it will still have 39.000£ after the conversion. So, if you happen to be away for a few days and you know that your country will be AI controlled it might be a good idea not to have more than 100.000£ on your balance as the rest will be lost.
